The dot SE country-code top-level domain was established in 1986 and given to Sweden. During the first years after its introduction, the registration process was pretty restrictive, so a very small number of domains were reserved. Persons were allowed to book only one domain under .PP.SE (“pp” stands for “private person”). Local presence was compulsory, i.e. only Swedish persons, business entities and organizations were able to secure a .SE domain. In 2003, however, the registration process was loosened significantly and, as a consequence, the number of .SE domains has been rising each year.
