Dot NAME Domain Names

Started in 2001, the Dot NAME top-level domain name extension is the only one supposed to be for personal sites only. These domains can consist of personal or fictional names, aliases and/or other titles people are famous by. At the beginning, only third-level registrations were allowed, so if you planned to reserve john.doe.name, you were required to do that under .doe.name. In 2004, however, the registration process was loosened and second-level registrations were also permitted. Already registered third-level domains remained operational.
